Meet The Musicians

Ms. Mayuri Vasan

Lead Vocalist

Mayuri Vasan started her training in Carnatic music under the guidance of Smt. Padma Kutty in Los Angeles. During her summers in Chennai, she also learned from Smt. S. Sowmya, Smt. Suguna Purushottaman, and Smt. Suguna Varadachari. Mayuri is currently a disciple of Sri Delhi P. Sunder Rajan. Mayuri has performed during the Chennai music season under the banners of Narada Gana Sabha, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Vani Mahal, Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Trinity Arts Festival, Carnatica, Kartik Fine Arts, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Maarga, and Nadasudha. During the season, she has given lecture demonstrations on voice care and culture. She also teaches Carnatic music, Western music, voice training and culture. She has also given concerts around India, including the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha in Mumbai, and the US. Mayuri has had the privilege to perform for arangetrams with the Indo-American Academy of Classical Music based in the US.

     Mayuri also has her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Opera performance and has been a part of performances in her universities and in the community. She has performed the roles of Maestra della Novizie in Suor Angelica, La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi, and has covered the role of Gertrude in a recent production of Roméo et Juliette with Independent Opera Company. She is currently a staff singer with the Long Beach Camerata Singers and also sings with Pacific Chorale.

Shri Raman Kalyan 'Flute Raman'

Flutist

Flute Virtuoso "Surmani" Raman, is one of the world's leading flutists in the Carnatic style of music. Raman with his unique style has captivated audiences globally. He was adjudged as the "Best Flutist" twice by the Madras Music Academy, India. Mr. Kalyan is a top-ranking artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Apart from being a soloist, Raman has been a successful composer and has scored music for many audio /video albums, Dance Dramas, and theatre productions. He has been recognized as a Child Prodigy, Master Performer, Composer, Educator, Collaborator, and Producer. He has released over 80 solo CDs globally and featured as a guest in more than 300 audio/video commercials and Indian movies. 
Raman is the founder president of the Indo-American Academy of Classical Music, an organization dedicated to propagating Classical music. Raman's music for deep relaxation CD was on the # 1 spot on the Apple iTunes World Music Charts and remained in the top 50 albums for more than 6 months. Raman is also the founder president the Na-mama foundation, a non-profit organization to do charity through arts.

Mr. Kavi Srinivasa Raghavan

Mrudangist

S. Kavichelvan was first introduced to the mridangam by Sri Vinod Venkataraman at the age of five. Since the age of nine, he has been under the tutelage of Sri N. Manoj Siva. Kavi has also had the privilege of undergoing training from Sangitha Kalanidhi Sri Vellore Ramabadhran and has had the blessing of performing alongside him. He has performed alongside musicians such as Roopa Mahadevan, Sangeetha Swaminathan, Padma Sugavanam, Rithvik Raja, Amritha Murali, Flute Raman, and N. Vijay Siva.

Mr. Sanjay Sharma

Violinist

Sanjay Sharma has been learning violin for the past 14 years. Starting his initial training from Smt. Sandhya Srinath, Sanjay has taken Violin lessons from Srikanth Mallajoysula, and from Rajalakshmi Krishnan of the Jayamangala School, Maryland. Sanjay now takes advanced training from Sri Delhi P Sunder Rajan of Chennai.
Sanjay gave his first 2-hour solo Violin concert at the age of 12. He has given many violin solo performances in India and the USA and frequently accompanies for Carnatic music concerts and Bharathanatyam arangetrams in the Washington DC Metro area. Sanjay has accompanied leading artists from India including Sri R.Suryaprakash, Sri Ashok Ramani, Sri Nemani Somayajulu.
Sanjay has received several awards for Violin including at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Competitions. Sanjay is also well accomplished on the Mrudangam and has accompanied for concerts on the Violin as well as Mrudangam during the December Music Season in Chennai for the past few years.

Dr. Shrilekha Parikh

Vocalist for Gujarati Bhajans

Dr. Shrilekha Parikh is a practicing internal medicine physician in Oklahoma City. She received her Indian classical vocal music training from Ms. Pratima Shah (of Gwalior gharana) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. She is Sangeet Alankar (equivalent to MA in music) from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidhyalaya.

Mstr. Naren Pullela

Tablist

Naren a high schooler from Norman, OK, has been learning percussion since he was nine. He has learned mridangam under the tutelage of Dr. Rohan Krishnamurthy and is learning tabla under the guidance of Hyderabad-based Gajender Shewalkar. Naren has been providing percussion support on the mridangam and tabla for local as well as visiting artists in the Dallas and Oklahoma areas since he was ten.

Smt. Nishita Shah

Nattuvanar

Nishita Shah, founder, and director of Nritya-Arpan Dance School has been teaching in Edmond, OK for the past 11 years. Nishita started learning dance at the age of 4 in India from Guru Smt. Bindu Shah and Late Shri Saundar Rajan Pillai. Throughout her journey of 17 years of training; she learned various Indian classical and folk dance styles from renowned and experienced teachers. After she earned 'Nritya Visharad' in Bharatanatyam she performed worldwide as a professional dancer for 5 years in mythological Ballets. 

She received Nattuvangam training from Guru Smt. Sumitra Rajguru, Shri Ananth Vikram, Smt. Yogita Kulkarni, as well as from Dhanalakshmi Krishnamoorthy.
